oblivion takes a turn for the better

so i went through, changed the difficulty, and got that stupid oblivion gate sorted. then i walked around, started finishing up some quests i had lyin around, and man hah, total pace change. with the mobs being trivial, i managed to start to get more used to other parts of the game, and as i did, i got more into it all. things like, blocking, which i never used to do, but now do alot. and then the torch thing which i'd never understood before, but now do, the whole lighting of it, whilst your weapons unequipped it appears, plus the practice of repairing damaged gear whilst inbetween fights. its all pretty cool. and then the player-owned housing i downloaded, many of them cool. and then the mod community. ive been reading through many fo the mods people've put together. all of which seem cool. there's even a mod to rebuild the lost burned city that i just saved yesterday, destroyed by the denizens of the oblivion gate. its all pretty cool.

and so yeah, i cured my vampirism hah, although that's not so much news, at least current. the downloadable vile lair had a cure-bath for it, with salts & the like. kinda nice, no more biting & all that. i contracted the shit again, but went straight to a temple which was cool. also been working up the thieves guild quests and those're kinda neat, got to finally meet the boss face to face, currently on the 3rd or 4th task from the guy, which if i remember right from the wiki is soon before you actually BECOME the guild master yourself. also killed my way through the finish in the arena, which made me the reigning grand champion. i noticed there was a negative text message when i killed the guy. he didn't even resist, upon hearing he was a vampire he just wished for death. his buddy in the training hall though hated the fact, and left the hall. kinda sad turn of events really.

the castle is kinda nice, and i've been reading up on the dwarves in the game. extinct race, with artifacts spread across the land. kinda neat. and then the forge in the hall, pretty cool, plus the dwarven fixture in themages guild. i've been eyeing the mages guild & the fighters guild as well. seems like two major sets of quests that could be cool. the thieves guild though probably can't be beat for cool factor im guessing, they were all about infiltration and the like. i mean i would've liked it more if there was perhaps a war going on and the like and i was perhaps an agent for one side, spying, slaying enemies, laying traps, sabotaging equipment and the like. whilst i was out in ankeney jr high beavercreek ohio usa i did a report on espionage and sabotage. or it may have been mvs beavercreek ohio usa. depends on the year really. in 98 i was in mvs, 97 i was in ankeney.

but yeah, the modding. so apparently there's this modding program that's downloadable, you can open up the existing game in it and edit shit, but i didnt like how it says you ahve to use other programs just to make content to use in the editor which doesnt seem cool. how many programs will there be hah. but its still sounding tempting. there's one that removes borders that someonee lse made, that if i laod in will open say the northern border, which'd give me free reign to build new content in the north or wherever really, which's neat. there's also dungeons people have made to be player usable, and even oblivion-mod tools that manage everything youve got, saving you the trouble of having to code everything yourself, im guessing they set things from false to true and the like. kinda neat.

i continue to feel like this's a game that seems to take after MMOS, that there's a difficulty setting to make it really feel like one, like soloing in a challenging group-oriented MMO. take paladin in EQ, wasn't easy at all to do it, but people still took pride in taking it in stride as a challenge and something to test themselves against. in the same way i feel like hardcore oblivion fans are basically pushing it to the limit and just enjoying the fuck out of it. i mean getting way down in detail in anything can be fun. take music for instance, i've recently spread out a couple different songs and that was neat because it made them more... in depth i guess you could say. and in teh same sense knowing a game inside and out can be rewarding, in fun, and in ability to do similar work in the future. when something is so deep and wide that it gives you the bredth you need to really fully get involved in it hardcore, then people will do so. some might call it addiction, others call it the truely rewarding form of gameplay. gamers know how fun it can be to get real depth into a game. addiction is a danger that looms around every avenue in life. its up to the user to make sure not to abuse themselves to get caught up in addicting cycles of behavior and destructive cycles of play. otherwise without policing onesself its entirely irresponsible and possible to get sucked in. thats gaming though, thats life. responsible gaming is a good idea and should be promoting. keeping an eye on where you stand, and how to keep you out of the red and in the safe area.

but yeah, other than all that, i changed the... resolution to a bigger one, and suprisingly & happily i noticed the computer didnt suffer any undue reaction to the change. i was expecting an explosion, frankly heh. but yeah. getting in depth really allows you to get a good handle on shit. i feel like some of the best comedy is by people who do og real indepth to analyze shit and then to make jokes about things most people normally dont get into. that sortof shit can really set you up for a decent circumstance and self-situation.

i don't know if i want a career in gaming, be it coding, artwork, concept & design, or da' boss, but it continues to be a force in my life thats been appreciated & the like. i've been playing games since before '92, and it's now '09. seventeen years. thats a long time for anything. but as i continue playing around with games it'll continue to be something that enrich's my life. which's definately a good thing. i mean there's nothing like playing a good game, watching a good film, listening to a new good band, putting some new stuff on the walls, and all that. new ideas introduced to a life can be a catalyst for personal growth and other things.
