the evercracked episodic series

i just checked out this thing on the net. its god smed and a few others. presented by a guy i've never heard of. but its still kinda cool. they've spat out four episodes so far. there's actually some stuff i didn't know about the game. and the story of it being made is kinda cool. hearing that the coders were from shareware was cool. also the fact that they stuck with how do we make this game fun. basically it was a cool approach. and since the whole thing was a risk they could afford to do it. they invented their own model of payment. and it held true. it makes me wonder what smed actually is. did he major in business. cause he definately seems to know what he's doing. but also its kinda interesting seeing the different characters at play. the whisical artist. the drone-like coder. brad mcquaid was the designer. one of two. he and his friend who both worked at the same place. coded by night. had their shit noticed by smed. then got called in and hired. but apparently it was smed who had the idea. but the entire game was built up from brad and his dude. its a shame we dont really have that name handy. but brad got all the fanfare. apparently the guys called steve clover. that deserves to be remembered.

brad apparently had drug problems. and there was a bit of a scandal with one of his other games. also it kinda surprises me how threadbare they were to start. everyone was just makin do with very little. and they didn't expect the 10,000 player base. but they definately made a very great world. in my opinion my favorite of all that i've played. maybe it was because you could really interact with the game. maybe its because they took the depth of muds and applied it on a 3d model. maybe its because they just poured thousands of unique models into the game. but it definately was a labor of love. and it makes me want to make my own labor of love. like just sit down and make a great album. that to me would be a good thing. maybe i could do that with music. do what they did with gaming. although i think i would like to make a film sometime. but i guess its like coming up with new aspects to a piece of work. you cold walk away with something pretty awesome. and in that i think there's potential. it kindof excites me thinking about how i could apply it in the studio. but at the end of the day it was a good game. it got played through. perhaps they didn't expect how hardcore people would play it. but they made a model someone could really sink their teeth into. and in that there was success. an industry changing revolution.
